A single exemplar of a very usual XVII and XVIII centuries housing typology in Braga, the Houses of Gelosias (Casas das Gelosias) or House of Crivos (Csa dos Crivos), is located in S. Marcos Street. The house develops on a simple rectangular plan, which stands out due to its verticality, taking advantage of the small area where it’s placed. Divided into 3 registers, the building presents differentiated façades. The windows typology was used in many Braga houses in the XVII century, to force its population into an “absolute modesty”, rendering as “a life testimony of Braga’s conservative religiousness” (MENDES, Fernando, 1994, p.75).
