Puteaux is a French city, located in the western outskirts of Paris, in the centre of the department of Hauts-de-Seine. Located on the left Seine riverbank, the city confronts North with Coubevoie, South with Suresnes and West with Nanterre. Puteaux is connected to Paris by the Puteaux Bridge and the Neuilly Bridge.
It is one of the most populated cities in Europe, where several urban areas can be distinguished.
The Bas de Puteaux (Lower Puteaux), the most ancient urban area of Puteaux, is located between the rail-road and the Seine River, where we can see the Old church, the Hauts-de-Seine Theatre and the City Hall, built in 1934, an example of the architectural style of that time, the shopping area constituted by the Jean Jaurès, the Eichenberger and the Chantecoq streets and the Richard Wallace Avenue, which is considered as the Puteaux’s “champs-Élysées”.
The Haut de Puteaux (Higher Puteaux), located east of the rail-road, is a more recent residential area, ehere we can highlight the “résidences des rosiers” of Cartault, Marcellin Berthelot, and Bernard Palissy.
La Defense, located further north, bounded by the city ring line, is one of Europe’s main business centres, where we can see office buildings and some famous residential areas (Tour Défense 2000, résidence Boieldieu). Two thirds of la Defense’s territory are located in Puteaux, the remaining territory is divided between Courbevoie and Nanterre. So, the Center of New Industries and Technologies – the CNIT, the Arch of la Defense and the “Quatre Temps” shopping centre are located in Puteaux.
And the Puteaux Island, where we can find an enormous sports complex (with tennis courts, a football stadium, swimming pools, etc), inaugurated in July 2006, as well as large areas with parks and gardens.
