Município de Braga

Bom Jesus, Sameiro and Falperra, are places that stand out as landmarks and are a part of any tour of Braga due to their beauty and religious value.
Thus, they form a triangle, based on religious interest and surrounded by unspoiled green areas.

It is a triangular area of unspoilt beauty. With Braga at the foot of the hill, it captures the magic of the beautiful monuments with its own tales and styles.

"Igreja do Bom Jesus do Monte" (The Bom Jesus do Monte Church)

The Bom Jesus Church (P.I.B/P.V.)* was designed by the architect Carlos Amarante under the order of the Archbishop D. Gaspar de Bragança to replace the primitive church ordered by D. Rodrigo de Moura Teles, that was in ruins. The construction started on June 1st , 1784 and was completed in 1811.

It is one of the first neoclassical buildings in Portugal and the façade is sided by two towers and ends with a triangular front.

"Santuário do Sameiro" (The Sameiro Shrine)

The Sameiro Shrine, (P.V.)* began its construction around the 19th century and it’s the largest centre of Marian devotion in Portugal, after Fátima.

The construction of the Temple was completed in the 20th century. From its interior we point out the high altar in white polish granite as well as the silver sacrarium. In front of the temple rises a wide majestic polished, which ends in  two pillars, topped by the Virgin and the Heart of Jesus.

"Igreja de Santa Maria Madalena" (The Santa Maria Madalena Church)

In the Falperra Hill we find the Santa Maria Madalena Church (P.I.B/P.V.)* built by the archbishop D. Rodrigo de Moura Teles. It is a harmonious monument in the rococo style.

There is a wide staircase at the entrance, in accordance with surrounding sanctuaries in the same style. The interior, also richly decorated in a Baroque style, has a noteworthy pulpit and 18th century glazed tiles produced by the ceramist Policarpo de Oliveira Fernandes.
